My Yarn Talks to Me

So, in my last post I featured this *delicious* Bonbon Lion Brand Yarn.  Some people hear from the dead....me?  My yarn talks to me.  This yarn said "flowers", so I made flowers.  Then I tried to add said flowers to a tank top pattern, a baby sweater, and a shrug.  I kept hearing "scarf", but resisted the call of the yarn.  Many hours of taking out, rearranging, and re-crocheting (yes, I like to make up words, don't judge :) and finally I relented to the yarn's whim and.....viola!  A scarf.  The yarn's always right!

But I have no idea why this picture is sideways :/  Kinda like me!  Ta-ta for now, Kim

Yarn Candy

I'm on my summer hiatus to Michigan, a much needed respite from the brutal heat of Texas.  At the local yarn store (JoAnn Etc), picked up Lion Brand's Bonbons package--- a pricey (but yes, I still bought it), little bundle of yarn in mini sized skeins.

I'll let the yarn tell me what it wants to be :)

4th of July Freebie

After working out some kinks, in this pattern, I'm making it available for free. Yup, its a freebie to celebrate our freedom as a country. Cheesy, I know. The pattern uses Iced Bamboo #3 Crochet Thread (a thicker crochet thread you should really try), but I've made a creamy vanilla version using Sinfonia yarn (Available at Hobby Lobby).

Lazy Crocheters Like Me

Confession time: my best selling pattern was created out of laziness. Yup, I didn't want to deal with a slip stitch ribbing pattern I bought (although it was very pretty), and I wanted a lacy ribbing pattern. The sc, ch loops of this pattern also make for immediate gratification. Especially since it is made with worsted weight yarn. It's even prettier and summer-light when you use a yarn like Caron's Spa yarn---which I have found on clearance at Hobby Lobby these past couple of weeks. Find the pattern on Ravelry: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ellie-shawl-collar-shrug ----So, crochet with impunity! Hugs, Kim

Peace, Love, Crochet!

I'm sitting next to a lake in Michigan where our family gets away from the Texas heat every year. Well, it didn't work out quite that way this year, as we all know the summer's heat is a doosy this season.

So, been surfing on the ole web for project inspiration. Noticing a lot of hairpin lace and natural crochet thread items. Believe me, the lacy-er and cooler...the better right now. I want to wear the lightest items possible but still cover those curves and look great!

Now, I've tried...and given up on hairpin lace before, but whilst I'm cloistered inside trying not to melt this summer, I'm gonna give it another go. Who doesn't like do-overs after all.

Granny be good

The Amazing Granny Square is the building block for many a good quilt, sweater, vest, shawl, scarf, potholder, pillow.  I've used a variation on the great granny in this vest.  The yarn is Bernat's Mosaic and takes about 3 skeins.
